SafiScan ("we", "us", the "App") helps you check whether food is halal and how healthy it is, and track your meals. We designed SafiScan to keep your data private. This policy explains what we handle and why.
Your sex, age, height, weight, goals, madhab, dietary preferences, logged meals and scan history are saved locally on your iPhone. We do not receive or store this on our servers.
When you ask SafiScan to analyse a meal photo, the image is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing backend (Cloudflare) and to our AI provider (OpenAI) to estimate the food and its nutrition. The image is processed only to return a result and is not retained by us.
When you scan a barcode, we query the public Open Food Facts database to retrieve product information. The barcode and ingredient text may be sent to that service.
If you add a product to the shared database, the barcode, product name and ingredient list you provide are stored on our backend so other users benefit. Please do not include personal information in submissions.
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your card or payment details — Apple shares only an anonymous indication of whether your subscription is active.
Camera — to scan barcodes and labels and photograph meals. Photo library — only when you choose a photo to analyse. Notifications — optional reminders and a weekly digest. We do not request microphone, contacts, or advertising-tracking permissions.
SafiScan handles health-related information (such as weight and dietary goals) solely to calculate your calorie target and personalise results on your device. We do not use it for advertising and do not share it. SafiScan does not use Apple HealthKit.
We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs and we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising (as those terms are used under the CCPA/CPRA).
Because your data lives on your device, you control it: clear your scan history and meal log in the app, disable notifications or revoke camera/photo access in iOS Settings, and delete the app to remove on-device data. Where applicable law (e.g. GDPR/UK GDPR or CCPA) grants rights of access, correction or deletion of any data we hold (such as community submissions), email us and we will respond.
Our processing providers (Cloudflare, OpenAI) may process requests on servers in the United States. By using AI features you understand your request is processed there.
SafiScan is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this policy and will revise the date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
SafiScan provides guidance to assist your own judgement. Halal and health results are informational, may be incomplete or incorrect, and are not a religious ruling (fatwa) or medical/dietary advice. Always verify with the manufacturer, the relevant certifying body, or a qualified scholar or clinician where it matters.
